So now that I’m studying abroad in London, I guess I’m like super cultural and what not, so I have to travel to a million European places and then brag about it on facebook, right? That’s how you do study abroad, I think…
Kidding (sort of?) anyway, my friend Ali and her friend Emma and I went to Rome for the weekend (casually) to visit our friend Kelly for her big 21st birthday!!
So here are some of the places I went to/ vegan options if you are traveling with a non-vegan crew (like I was):
FOR GELATO
. Giotlitti: The BEST gelato in all of Rome, hands down. They have all the dairy-free options marked on the menu too!! The cones are not vegan (I asked) but the magic of the gelato makes up for it. I got cherry and chocolate. Ugh. The chococlate was SO ORGASMIC, I went back for seconds #sorrynotsorry
. Fonte Della Salute: This place has all natural gelato and is known for having the vegan options marked on the menu. I got hazelnut and chocolate. Really tasty but not as legendary as Giolitti.
FOR PASTA AND PIZZA
. Osteria de Fortunata: kbcidjbnfcugbfbcwndib OMFG you have not had Italian food until YOU HAVE GONE HERE!!!! It is so good, I can’t even. All the pasta is homemade and if you ask the waiter which pasta is egg-free, they will tell you (I forgot the name sowwy) and then cover it in fresh tomato sauce. THIS PLACE DOE. If you’re only in Rome for a short place, do this place and Giolitti. Legit perf combo.
. Ristorante Pagnanelli: The best wine tasting and vegan tasting menu ever thanks to Kelly the birthday gal!!!! Upon hearing I was vegan, they whipped up the most delicious and intricate like 5 course tasting menu for me and it was unforgettably delicious. If you’re looking for something less touristy to do/a less touristy restaurant to go to, come here for a wine tasting and dinner. The view is breathtaking and the food is BAE.
For smoothies/health food:
. There is this place called Ginger we went to that had a bunch of really great smoothies. Not many vegan food options, but def a great stop if you need to take a health break from stuffing your face with pasta and gelato lol.
Anyway, these were the top spots. Most places have a least 1 egg-free pasta with tomato sauce and most places can make a pizza with no cheese so those are always options if you get stuck! Anyway, I’m carbed out. Gonna go take a nap!
