Vegan at The Ritz-Carlton – Kyoto, Japan

What do you do if you’re in Tokyo for five days? Take the bullet train to Kyoto for a day!

The train is so cool looking. It’s like sleek and white and looks like something out of the future. The train ride is only 2 and a half hours long, so I recommend bringing a book and a little lunch box filled with goodies! We had our hotel make us some vegan sandwiches, inari (sorry, i meant crack), and we also brought little vegan scones from the Alfred Tea in Tokyo. Snakes on a Plane? More like Picnic on a Train! (Ok that was bad. SORRY.)

Kyoto was so adorable and had the cutest little shops and cafes and we even got to see geishas, temples, and zen gardens! One store was a chocolate store that had vegan iced mint chocolate drinks. I wish I remembered the name… sorry folks #bloggerfail. There was also the cutest little Studio Ghibli store as well as this adorable store that sold squishy soap made from potatoes (just don’t question it lol) and even a hidden Starbucks with a zen garden! Yes, Kyoto has it all.

For dinner, we were feeling something very simple so we went to the Ritz Carlton and had them prepare a vegan meal for us. The hotel is beautiful! Like stunning. They should film a movie there.

They made us the most delicious edamame #mommy #lol, delicious vegetable sushi with different vegetables… like DELICIOUS, and warm and flavorful miso soup. Everything was so simple but SOOOO delicious and creative.

And the star of the evening…. DESSERT! Just kidding. Dessert was literally two grapes and a slice of peach cut in half in a giant bowl of ice. I’m sorry but….. whut? Like I’m so confused. I’m still confused. To this day. And for the rest of my life. Like I will die thinking about those two grapes and that peach slice. WHY and HOW is that dessert. Like imagine if it was on a  plate and not a bowl of ice???? Imagine if it was served on a paper towel???? Like the ice does not make it fancy!

(This just a joke. I totally appreciated everything they made for us! I really do appreciate the effort they put into the vegan meal on short notice. I just thought the tiny dessert was funny. Also the grapes in Japan taste like literal candy so no complaining)

Anyway, come here if you’re ever in Kyoto, for some yummy sushi, yummy soup, and a confusing dessert that comes with a leaf that strongly resembles pot!
