Hey everybody! So our vegan friend Patrice, who is from China, and her other friend who is also from China, invited us to get authentic Chinese food today!! If you were wondering, American Chinese food is v different than Chinese Chinese food. Also, it’s best to go with the locals because they know exactly what to order 🙂
We went to one of Patrice’s favorite places called Phoenix Inn that is located in China Town. This restaurant is so cute and the food comes out in literally 10 minutes! Great service. My friend spoke Chinese to the waiters and figured out what was vegan so I don’t have all the exact names of everything #sorrynotsorry
To drink, they gave us a really yummy tea instead of water. For our main meal, we ordered the tofu in the spicy sauce (wasn’t spicy though #thankgod #lol), the rice porridge (which is basically rice and water that has turned into a porridge and tastes bomb with soy sauce), and the buddha vegetable platter (veggies and tofu). Everything was SO damn yummy.
And then for dessert, we ordered fried mochi (I KNOW) with sesame paste on the inside and it legit tasted like a donut with almond butter inside. I KID YOU NOT. So yummy. Delicious.
We also ordered this dessert drink made with seaweed, green beans, water, and sugar. It sounds bizarre but it tasted like red bean ice cream in drink form with pieces of sweet beans!! SO yummy! My fave thing from the whole night. Also apparently, in China, beans are always served sweet as opposed to America where they are served salty. Fun fact!
Anyways, definitely come here for authentic chinese food and dessert! YUM!
