I’m actually unhealthily obsessed with sushi and Japanese food. I’m not even kidding. I think about it all the time and half of my cravings are always sushi.
So, I thought I would honor my neverending sushi cravings by checking out this adorable Japanese restaurant in Manhattan called Nami Nori that my friend Monica found. As quoted from google, Nami Nori is a place where “Temaki hand rolls & other Japanese bites are served in a minimalist setting with neutral tones.” I mean, c’mon, that’s so dope.
The first thing we ordered at Nami Nori was the cocktail Cherry Bomb which was AMAZING. That was made with cremant sparkling wine, cherry sage cordial, soju. I could have drunk ten of those in a row if someone let me LOL.
For appetizers, we got the furikaké fries with tomato tonkatsu and the nami nori salad, iceberg, tomato, rice
chips, buttermilk nori dressing. Both were great but I’m NOW realizing that the waiter lied and said the salad was vegan when it clearly wasn’t – peep the buttermilk. FML. Unfortuntaly, both were great. I’m hoping the waiter modified the salad for us since we specified vegan, but, in retrospect, it did taste a little too creamy. Suspiciously creamy. Also, now that I’m looking at the photo, that is clearly dairy. I’m dumb apparently.
Anyway, for our main course we got the VEGAN SET (certified vegan, thank God) which included the following flavored tamakis:
- avocado “toast”, beets, crispy carrots
- eggplant, red miso, gobo chips
- maitake truffle
- ginger scallion squash, micro cilantro
- cucumber black sesame, shiso, plum
They were yummy! My favorites, by far, were the avocado toast and the maitake truffle. The rest were ok! Still great because it’s sushi, but nothing mind blowing.
If I were to go back, I’d probably just get the Cherry Bomb cocktail and those two tamikis. Anyway, if you’re a hoe for Japanese foood like me, check them out: https://naminori.nyc/welcome
