BIG THANK YOU to the bestie Monica who invited me on her family trip to Morocco. One of the most fun trips I have ever taken! (Almost used the word “funnest” and forgot it wasn’t a word. Can we just make it a word? GOSH)

We stayed at the swankiest hotel called La Mamounia (the spa was especially to die for, it had such a great pool for stellar instagrams #justsayin)

This hotel was surprisingly very vegan friendly/accommodating and had no problem finding out what was vegan and what was not! Which is surprising in a place like Africa. (I know isn’t it weird that Morocco is in Africa??)

FIRST THINGS FIRST….

1. ROOM SERVICE.

The room service was really yummy. We ate out most of the meals, but I’ll let you know what the vegan room service options are.

• French fries (BEST french fries ever with the BEST ketchup. Legit ordered twice a day, every day)
• Dates and almond milk (Moroccan dates are OUT OF THIS WORLD and their homemade almond milk tastes like literal candy heaven) Also, as a welcome tradition, they give you free dates and almond milk upon arrival #hotelgoalz
• Vegetable couscous (Morocco slays the couscous game)
• Moroccan tea (literally the best tea of my life, and it’s always sweet af and loaded with sugar and just all around TASTY AS FUCK)
• Hotel room is always stocked with a basket of different fruit every day (clementines, plums, etc.)

Next most important….

2. BREAKFAST BUFFET

Always way more expensive that you’d like it to be, but lots of options to choose from (mostly for non-vegans, but us vegans always make do). So there was a lot of fresh fruit, fresh jams, and rice crackers/ corn crackers. So that’s sort of what I went with every morning. As well as fresh juices and almond milk lattes.

ALSO, there are stray cats everywhere at the hotel breakfast area so they just come up to you and sit on your lap while you eat!!

 

NOW: HOTEL RESTAURANTS

3. Le Marocain

La Mamounia has four restaurants, all with different types of cuisine. This one is traditional Moroccan. The food was super yummy! I don’t remember it much because it was on the first night and I was jet lag AF, but here’s what I got. (Also make sure to tell the waiters you are vegan, just so they can modify what they need to. They were really helpful at this restaurant)

I got the harissa soup to start which was really yummy!

And then I got the 14 course salad (I think it was 14? yeah okay i just counted lol) which was super cool looking and fun to try all the different Moroccan salads. Not all of them are vegan (one of them is legit lamb brains or something) so make sure you ask. (unless you wanna break your veganism for lamb brains in Morocco, then by all means yolo it).

For my main course, I got the vegetable tagine, which is a classic Moroccan dish, and veggie couscous. All super yummy and filling! I realized I REALLY like Moroccan food. It’s all vegetables, potatoes, dates, olives, couscous, lentils, squash, chickpeas. Like all my favorite foods.

4. L’Italien 

This is the Italian restaurant in the hotel. And who knew Moroccans could SLAY Italian food?! I had some of the best pasta of MY LIFE at this restaurant.

I told the waiter I was vegan and they made sure everything I ate was modified and vegan, even the bread. To start, I had the olive bread with their homemade olive oil (cue heart eyes emoji) and breadsticks with marinara sauce (instead of the non-vegan dipping sauce everybody else got).

For the appetizer, I had the artichoke salad (I think they may have taken the cheese out of it?). It was good, but like super small and I’m not the biggest fan of artichokes so I didn’t really care for it.

STAR OF THE NIGHT: this fucking pasta. The noodles were so thick and the sauce was incredible and UGH. I want that right now. I think I just got spaghetti with tomato sauce? I can’t remember if it was on the menu or they made it for me especially but I know my friend’s sister also got it. If you go here, GET THIS. It’s INCREDIBLE.
