VEGAN AT HANGAWI- MIDTOWN, NYC

So today our awesome friend Kristen invited us to lunch at a vegan korean bbq place called Hangawi and it was so much fun!

For starters, you have to take your shoes off because you are sitting on the floor and I love walking around in socks! Makes me feel like I’m the cat in the hat or something! (<- borderline weird, yeah I know) and they have you sitting sorta on the floor but there is a little place to put your feet. Here are some pics of Bella and Kristen sitting there like wittle happy dumplings:

The food we had was very delicious! For starters, we had the citron juice. For those of you who are all like “what the fu- is a citron”, I thought the same. Apparently, it’s the mix between an orange and a lemon and the juice is delicious! They pour it into these pottery-like mugs (bring me back to my ceramics dayz #imcool) and they even leave in the rinds which taste candied and I think you can eat them, I mean- I haven’t died yet…. Super delicious and great if you like trying new things. And if you don’t, good luck living an interesting life.

Bella got the veggie dumplings as an appetizer which she really liked. I thought they were okay, but she’s a dumpling fan so if you are too, take her word for it and grab those damn dumplings!

For the meal, we got the crispy mushrooms in sweet and sour sauce which we all loved. Basically like little mushroom chicken nuggets in good sauce! Then we got the avacado stone bowl and some noddle bowl I forget the name of. They come in hot little bowls and it’s really fun to watch the server pour in the sauce and mix it up which sizzles and all that great stuff! The noodles had a really cool texture and the miso dressing on the rice was delicious.

For dessert we had sweetened green tea floats with vanilla bean and the sample platter which had: tofu chocolate pudding, little pieces of blueberry coconut cake, vanilla bean ice cream, and vegan mallomars! We all loved the cute and tiny desserts, especially the tiny spoons it came with. Honestly, who doesn’t love tiny spoons???

And my friend saw a checklist in the bathroom stating that they clean it and make sure everything is in stock every hour and a half. So for the germ freaks out in da house, Hangawi has yo back!

These are the words we used to describe Hangawi overall:

Olie: Fun

Kristen: Tasty

Bella: Exotic

Although the food didn’t blow us away, it was yummy and it is definitely a fun place to take friends and take your shoes off and chill the fuck out!
