How many times have you gone to a new restaurant and been mindblown? How often have you literally given a restaurant a 10/10 review? Well, this just happened to my sister and me today when we checked out this new restaurant in Culver City called Destroyer.
I’m honestly not sure how I’ve never heard of this place because not only is it now one of my NEW favorite spots in LA but, when we arrived, it had a literal line out the door. Like, who kept this place a secret from us!?!? For some context, Destroyer is (as quoted by the glorious internet) “Jordan Kahn’s minimalist, daytime-only spot for inventive Scandinavian-style breakfast & lunch fare.”
It’s not all vegan, but the vegan options they had were BALLER. Plus, I think the menu items change every now and then according to what’s in season. So depending on when you read this post, they may be offering other things.
To start, my sister and I got the sweet potato latte, which was made with oat milk (you have to choose the non-dairy milk), yams, cinnamon, and a few other things that literally tasted like fall in a cup. The best part, there was no coffee in it at all, so it was completely caffeine-free. So cozy and yummy.
For our main meals, we split the veganized avocado dish and the wild blueberry bowl. PEOPLE!!! THIS WAS INSANE!!!! ALERT THE MEDIA! It was amazing. They modified the avocado dish to be a sort of avocado toast, but don’t let looks deceive you. As simple as it looks, this avocado toast was one of the best we’ve EVER had, and that’s saying a lot from a vegan who did an avocado tour of NYC.
Next, we got the wild blueberry bowl and – I don’t even have words for it. One of the most simple, yet creative vegan dishes I’ve ever had. It had the most perfect blueberries I’ve ever tasted, these sweet/chewy little tapioca pearls, and the sweetest candied beets over the most decadent coconut yoga. 1000/10 recommend.
The restaurant also serves the iconic Oishii Strawberries – aka the perfect Strawberries from Japan that are $5 a strawberry. Not a box. A single-ass strawberry. So, of course, I had to get 3 lmao. They were so sweet and soft and smelled like candy! Not sure if they’re worth $5 a pop, but I’m not ashamed to admit that I loved every bite.
Bella also got a citrus juice and a black sesame nut butter jar from the in-store shop. The nut butter was good, but she thought it could be sweeter, so she recommends adding maple syrup to it.
All right, folks, you heard it from us. Run, don’t walk, to Destroyer. All your friends will wonder how you found such a cool, delicious spot with baller vegan options and your tummy will thank you.
Your wallet probably won’t though. FYI, this place is a bit expensive, but, I promise, the food is worth it.
