As you know, I’m obsessed with a good market. No, like you don’t understand, I’m OBSESSED. Anyway, Camden Market is a pretty famous food market in London that I grew up going to. They sell loads of fun foods, drinks, and merch/clothing. It can kind of be chaotic since it’s very touristy, but, honestly, the food options are amazing and always changing, so I personally think it’s worth checking out every few years.
This time that we went, I can say with confidence that almost every single food stall had one, if not more, vegan options. I was #wet at the thought lmao.
Anyway, our stomachs could only handle so much, so we only tried a small percentage of the vegan options available, but these are the ones we did try:
- Steaks, Fries, and Sauces by Steakhaus
Yes, this place ironically had one of the most viral vegan food options: 3D printed vegan steak. Yes, you heard me. 3-motherfuckin-D printed food. It was listed on the menu as Redefine Steak and Fries (vegan) with the description reading: 3D PRINTED STEAK MADE WITH ZERO ANIMAL PRODUCTS SERVED WITH ROSEMARY FRIES + CHOICE OF SAUCE.
So we got the steak and fries with the only vegan sauce, which was some sort of garlic herb butter. My non-vegan friend tried it and gave it a 3/10, however, my sister and I LOVED it. It was slightly crispy on the outside and super chewy on the inside, with a very yummy meaty flavor. We both are still craving it to this day. The fries were solid too, but we were not fans of the butter. It was so parsley heavy and kinda ruined the dish. So unless you’re a hoe for parsley, definitely just do the steak and fries alone. Overall, definitely recommend for the taste, if not also the novelty. I mean, how many people can say they ate 3D printed food, huh?
2. London Churros
We were actually super surprised to see this stand have so many vegan options. They offered a normal vegan cinnamon sugar churro or a plane stuffed churro with coconut caramel sauce. We opted for the latter and it was super yummy! I’m not the hugest fan of churros in general, so I wasn’t blown away, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the coconut caramel sauce! So warm and fun to get on a cool London early afternoon.
3. Humble Crumble
I actually saw this place all over Tik Tok, so I was super excited to try. It’s basically a little storefront that specializes in fruit crumbles and hot custards. Not everything is vegan, but they have a vegan version of pretty much everything. You can decide between a fruit mixture (apple, elderberry, or rhubarb), a vegan crumble (which was like the golden buttery crumble on top of a traditional American fruit crumble, but with chocolate chips), and hot or cold vegan custard. You could also top it with vegan chocolate sauce, nuts, fruits, and other toppings!
We got one apple crumble with custard on top and one pure crumble (no fruit) with custard and chocolate sauce on top. They were AMAZING. Both were so freaking incredible. Also, it’s kind of insane how this apple crumble was one of the best I’ve ever had and it wasn’t even in America… people say London has shitty food, but the vegan food is lowkey FIRE.
4. Korean Corn Dog
We were going down some of the market alleyways (which have additional food stalls) and stumbled across a Korean corn dog stand (forget the name) that had a vegan option with a vegan sausage in it. Both my sister and I agreed it was just ok, but it’s the vegan thought that counts!
5. Tsujiri
Our last stop was this adorable Japanese stand that did strawberry oat milk matches and dango (one with soy powder, one with red bean, and one with black sesame). My friend who got the matcha loved it. The dango was kinda #wet and not great, but the lady making it was so adorable, so I’ll let it slide.
All in all, a success and I can’t wait to go back in a few years and see what else they have!
