So my sister and I are in NYC for the holidays because that’s where our fam is from and we thought why not go home to end this horrid 2020 year on a high note? But before you Karens point fingers at us saying we shouldn’t be traveling at this time, we got tested before the plane ride, took all necessary precautions on the plane/in airport, quarantined alone for a week, and got tested TWICE (all negative results) before seeing our family. So take that!
Back to the point (and the food), my twinny and I love trying new vegan restaurants whenever we come back to the city and one of the latest restaurants we tried was called Ginger Root Vegan Restaurant 100% vegan Asian restaurant. It was super cold outside and I was craving hot soup, but also cold spring rolls (because spring rolls are lyfe), so this restaurant sounded like the perfect mix.
We ended up postmating it because NYC indoor dining is currently closed and I would literally freeze my ~tiddies~ off if I tried outdoor dining in the dead of New York winter… so I apologize for the janky photos. It’s 2020. Ya gotta make do.
We ended up getting the spring rolls (with added tofu), tofu salad, scallion pancakes, coconut rice, and the hot and sour soup. Everything was really good!! Was it the best vegan Asian place I’ve ever been to? Probably not. Was it incredibly yummy and did it satisfy all of my winter cravings? Absolutely.
The soup was super warming and yummy. The coconut rice was incredible. The scallion pancakes were amazing because I mean, scallion pancakes. Can’t go wrong. Bella said the tofu salad was really good too, specifying that the tofu itself was amazing. The sauce that the spring rolls came with was AMAZING, but the actual rolls had too much daikon in them, which I’m not a huge fan of, so maybe ask for them to go a bit lighter on that end.
All in all, if Ginger Root is near you and you’re craving some solid Asian (Chinese?) food, check them out homies!
