I think I may have found my new favorite vegan restaurant in LA. That’s a bold statement, I know. But get ready to read about LA’s hottest, newest, and most underrated vegan restaurant on the block: Fresh on Sunset.
Fresh On Sunset hails all the way from Toronto, Canada and currently resides in West Hollywood. I don’t know what I did right in this life to have such a delicious vegan restaurant within walking distance of me, but I’m not gonna question it.
Fresh on Sunset is the most aesthetically-pleasing restaurant I’ve seen in a LONG time. It’s super chic, posh, and totally Instgrammable (for all my gen-zers out there).
Not only that, but the drink and food menu is super extensive and has options from onion rings and burgers, all the way to fresh juices and nutritious salads. Before I go into the specifics, I just want you all to know how much I love this place already and how sad I am that it’s not on Postmates. Ok, now that I’ve aired my grievances, let’s get into the review.
To start, my sis, friend Jay, and I got two orders of the crunchy-quinoa-crusted onion rings. TBH, I was pretty hungover from a Halloween party the night before and was super craving something greasy and savory. BOY, DID THESE ONION RINGS HIT THE SPOT. 10/10. They were deliciously crispy and well-seasoned on the outside, and soft and yummy on the inside. We ate all of them in about five minutes flat. They were even more delicious dipped in ketchup. So if you need some vegan hangover food, I highly recommend these onion rings.
For the main course, I got a Thai salad with crispy tofu nuggets added and BOY OH BOY OH BOY was it delicious. I’m crying thinking about how good it was. The salad came with: crispy cabbage, spiralized carrots, lettuce, peppers, goji berries, peanuts, and the most delicious Thai peanut sauce mixed in. But I haven’t even gotten to the best part of the salad: THE CRISPY TOFU. I’ve literally been thinking about that crispy tofu non-stop since I had my last bite. The tofu nuggets aren’t in the photo below because it came on the side, but it was hands down the best tofu I’ve ever had. I’m not sure what they seasoned the breading with, but it literally tasted cheesy and savory and gourmet. I would eat a bucket of that crispy tofu with my hands. I wish I was kidding.
Bella and Jay got the waffles and the Beyond Burger to split. Our friend Jay said she preferred the Impossible Burger over the Beyond, but still loved both the burger and the waffles. Bella loved them both as well and said that the food (taste + presentation) reminded her a lot of vegan food in Australia. If you’ve never been down under (that’s what she said, lol), you probably don’t know how big of a compliment that is. Australian vegan food is literally the peak of all vegan food in the world. Hats off to you, Fresh on Sunset.
Last but not least, for drinks, I got a passion fruit kombucha tonic and Bella got a hot chocolate. Although our waiter was super friendly, there were some communication issues with the kitchen and we ended up getting our drinks super late (like the end of the meal late). But on the bright side, we did get them for free, so woohoo!! I LOVED my passion fruit tonic. If you love passion fruit, you must try this.
Bella said she didn’t love her hot choc0late and was even saltier that it didn’t come with whipped cream like the menu said it would. Sucks to suck, Bella.
Yeah, so other than the drink snafu and the sad hot chocolate, this restaurant gets a 10/10 from me. I will be back very soon and downing a bucket of those tofu nuggets. Mark my words.
