Ever since I was little, I’ve been obsessed with Avril Levigne conspiracy theories Advent calendars! Getting to open a cute little calendar compartment every day in the month of December to find a delicious (usually chocolate-related) treat to keep me satisfied until Christmas morning was always a highlight of my childhood. I would, of course, only eat the designated treat for the day, but I would lowkey want to open every single flap and devour the entire advent calendar whole.
Well, this year, I thought to myself, “Why haven’t I had an advent calendar in over a decade!?” Later in the day, I also thought to myself, “why are you always such a dumb b*tch” but the two thoughts were completely unrelated.
Anyway, I jumped onto my laptop and quickly searched “vegan advent calendar.” To my surprise, the only ones I could find were from EUROPE!!! Like WTF. I was so confused. Then it dawned on me… are Advent calenders just a European thing? Someone, please let me know.
Weirded out, but damn ready for my chocolate, I decided to just go with the British Livia’s Treats vegan advent calendar, which I ordered off of the UK department store’s, Selfridges, website. Instead of chocolate, this box has little treats made from the vegan brand Livia, such as my FAVORITE “Million Squares.” What are Million Squares, you ask? They are little shortbread cookies topped with date-caramel and a thin layer of chocolate. When I studied abroad in London (#barTHelona), I used to eat little treats from this brand all the time and was obsessed! It’s been almost three years and I was seriously craving some million squares, so there was no way I was going to turn this calendar down.
The calendar arrived very timely and was adorable. I’ve so far only opened one box for December 1st, but the Million Squares that I got in the first box are TO DIE FOR. So delicious and even better than I remembered. I will say, though, the calendar itself is a little unstable and cheaply made… but the treats inside def make up for it, in my humble opinion.
So if you love Advent calendars, love vegan treats, and want to be cool and bougie like the Europeans, def check this one out! It might be a bit late since December already started and they’re probs sold out, but there’s always 2020! Sorry folks, but you know what they say. The early bird gets the million squares.
